Transfer Bottleneck Calculator

A file transfer crosses several stages. Enter your source read speed, network link and destination write speed to see which one sets the theoretical maximum throughput.

▰Source read550 MB/s
⇄Network125 MB/sBOTTLENECK
▥Destination write300 MB/s
Effective maximum125 MB/s
Estimated time2h 13m

The slowest stage sets the theoretical end-to-end maximum. Protocol overhead and workload behavior can reduce real throughput further.

How the bottleneck is calculated

The slowest stage limits the complete path. For example, a 10 Gbps network can theoretically carry 1,250 MB/s, but a destination that writes at 300 MB/s limits the transfer to at most 300 MB/s before other overhead.

Why real throughput may still be lower

Protocol overhead, latency, packet loss, encryption, filesystem behavior and many small files can reduce actual throughput. Use this result as an end-to-end planning baseline.
